Quokka - The Happiest Animal In The World Paper Toy - by MAPS

Occupying only two printed sheets, this papercraft of a friendly Quokka was created by the Japanese designer MAPS exclusively for the Canon website.

The Quokka is a small marsupial found mainly in Western Australia. It is known for its cute appearance and characteristic smile, which has made it popular on social media.

It is often called "the happiest animal in the world" due to its facial expression that seems to be smiling, making it a phenomenon on social media.

Quokkas are curious animals and are not afraid to approach humans, which makes them common subjects for selfies. However, it is important to remember that they are wild animals and should be treated with respect and care.

They generally inhabit coastal areas and eucalyptus forests in Western Australia. They are mainly found on Rottnest Island and the adjacent mainland, where they are protected in natural reserves.

A Great Collection Of Origami Dinosaurs - by Dr Stephen O'Hanlon

Dr Stephen O'Hanlon is a British scholar who, through his creations and texts, spreads the art of origami.

His website, without exaggeration, is a precious collection of the history of origami, a place full of stories, images and detailed diagrams that bring to light this incredible hobby that develops creativity, intellect, manual skills and that nowadays, with so many bright and seductive displays, it seems like something to be only in a museum, something for eccentric people.

There's a lot to explore on Dr O'Hanlon's website, but today I'm just highlighting his incredible dinosaur origami.

For each of them, Dr. O'Hanlon has hand-drawn detailed step-by-step diagrams that will leave no doubt for those who are interested.

More than that, in addition to photos and instructions about the dinosaurs, he created informative texts for each of them, with scientific data and a brief description, making the page a great source for school work.

A few words from Dr. O'Hanlon himself: - "I've always enjoyed the subject of dinosaurs and it seemed natural to combine this interest with my paper folding.

The recent BBC series 'Walking with Dinosaurs' made me pick up some of my favorite picture books from when I was young and trying to fold some of the creatures I saw.

I also discovered a lot more about these powerful prehistoric creatures. And so I presented this page in the most informative way I could.

In addition to photos and instructions about the dinosaurs, I included scientific data and a brief description. Hopefully this will also stimulate your interest."

Tyto Alba - Barn Owl Miniature Paper Model - by Zardos

Taking up three printed sheets, here is a beautiful realistic-style paper model of a Barn Owl, or Tyto Alba, created by Japanese designer and model maker Zardos.

The barn owl, also known as the barn owl, is a species of owl native to the Americas. It is known for her distinctive appearance, with large, round eyes, a heart-shaped head, and plumage that ranges from brown to gray.

The barn owl is a highly efficient nocturnal hunter, with extremely keen vision and hearing. It can locate its prey just by the sound of its movements, and its soft feathers ensure it flies silently, making it an effective predator in the dark.

One of the barn owl's most fascinating abilities is its ability to rotate its head up to 270 degrees, allowing it to look in virtually all directions without moving its body.

This is possible due to their unique anatomy, with a large number of vertebrae in the neck. Barn owls are known for forming long-lasting monogamous bonds.

They often remain with the same partner for their entire lives, sharing responsibilities in raising their young and defending their territory.

Majgu Island Lighthouse Paper Model In 1/160 Scale - by Gunnar Sillén

Created by Swedish designer and modeler Gunnar Sillén, from the website Bildrum, this is the Majgu Island Lighthouse papercraft. The entire model occupies just one printed sheet and is in 1/160 scale (N scale).

Regarding this lighthouse, Mr. Sillén said: - "In letters and in public contexts, the name of the island is written as Magö. But on Gotland they say and write Majgu.

Since time immemorial, the island has been an important point of guidance for sailors heading to the sheltered port of Slite or other Gotland limestone loading ports such as Hide and St Olofsholm.

The island probably has had some type of lighthouse since ancient times to facilitate navigation. At the beginning of the 19th century the lighthouse was built of wood and had a barrel as a top sign on the bow and perhaps it is not so strange that they placed a barrel as the most important export from the ports of Majgu since the 17th century was quicklime delivered in wooden barrels.

In Gustaf af Klint's 1839 description for the "Atlas Sveriges Sjö" there is text about the lighthouse that describes it thus: "a tower whose buttresses in the upper two-thirds are covered with boards a few meters below the barrel which stands on top.

In 1851, the wooden lighthouse was replaced with a stepped white brick and stone structure. But still with a barrel as the top sign. And next to the lighthouse, a similar white ladder guardhouse was built for the lighthouse keepers.

The lighthouse increasingly fell into disuse during the latter part of the 20th century, as radio and radar provided new conditions for safe piloting and navigation. In the 1980s, the lighthouse was completely destroyed.

When you visit the website to download the model, take a look at the photos. One of them shows the state of ruins the lighthouse was in at that time.

In 1990 it was rebuilt by the association of Othem Boge's home village. The Slite maritime museum is responsible for the maintenance of the lighthouse, which also uses the lighthouse with the associated cockpit as a record The Majgu Island Lighthouse is used in the logo of the Slite Shipping Museum, a maritime museum in Slite on the east coast of the island Gotland in Sweden, a voluntary project maintained by some enthusiasts since 1998. "

In Gunnar Sillén's own words, the aim of this museum is "to collect and display objects and memories that can give some understanding about all the work that had to be done by men, women and ships to keep life going for everyone else".

In the world of miniature model making, 1/160 scale or N scale is one of the most popular scales in the model railroad hobby, which consists of building and operating model trains.

1/160 scale (N scale) has a reduction factor of 1 to 160, which means that each centimeter on the model represents 160 centimeters in real life. This results in relatively small models, allowing you to create detailed models in compact spaces.

One of the main advantages of N scale is its ability to represent realistic scenes in a reduced space. Because it is smaller than other scales, it is possible to build complex and detailed railway models even in limited areas.

Templates For A Cardboard House For Dioramas And Wargames
by Papermau - Download Now!

I created these templates of a medieval-style house with the idea that it could be useful for dioramas and wargames.

I named and numbered the pieces and, with the images that illustrate this post, I believe it will be enough for those who venture into building their own medieval house.

As you can see, the model has a ground floor and a staircase that leads to the upper floor via a balcony. Maybe later I will publish a version with textures, but that will be for the future.

In addition to the templates to print, I will leave another link to the 3D version that can be viewed in Sketchup and another link for anyone who wants to download an old, free version of Sketchup.

I will also leave one more link to another cardboard house with downloadable templates that I published here on the blog in 2019.

In this post you will see some photos of the model assembly and some tips on what type of cardboard and glue to use, etc. Have fun.
